West Coast road trip scene in Australia

Build a coastal route in optional stages

From Perth 4x4 pickup information, a coastal trip can be planned north through Geraldton and Carnarvon towards Exmouth. Kalbarri, Shark Bay / Denham and Coral Bay are optional stops or detours; put them on a map with the proposed nights instead of assuming they all fit in a short itinerary. Search Perth → Exmouth and Perth → Perth with the actual dates to compare a one-way journey with a loop.

Kalbarri National Park is a useful example of planning beyond the drive. WA Parks: Kalbarri National Park says drinking water is not available in the park and warns of extreme summer temperatures; check its current safety and access advice before scheduling walks. Coral Bay and Exmouth are bases for the Ningaloo region, but camping availability and park rules need to be checked for the specific stop.

Allow for a change in the final leg

If the plan ends at Exmouth, leave time to clean, refuel and return the camper before onward travel. If returning to Perth, budget the southbound days before adding more northern stops. Ask Wicked about any unsealed park access road or beach route and compare the mapped distance with the kilometre allowance in your quote.

Choose a direction and finish

Mark pickup and return dates, then select the places most important to the group. If considering another return depot, first check availability and conditions for that exact combination.

Allow for rest, fuel, food, activities and overnight stops. Verify the services you depend on and leave room for changes rather than filling every day with fixed commitments.

Choose the return before adding detours

A useful first draft has a direction, a turnaround or finish point, and a last night that leaves time to return the vehicle. Place fuel, food and rest stops between the destinations; call ahead when a particular service is essential.

Compare a return to Perth with a different depot only after checking availability and the whole quote for your dates. Check road and park information and ask Wicked about each proposed unsealed section.

Match the roads to the agreement

Write down intended roads, including unsealed sections, and ask Wicked whether they are permitted for the vehicle offered. Check current road and park information and the forecast separately.

A loop back to Perth and an itinerary ending elsewhere have different final-day needs. Mark the proposed overnight stops and the days available before deciding whether a different return depot saves useful time for your group.

Search the exact depot and date combination, then compare its quote with a return hire. A different dropoff may not be offered for a particular vehicle or date, and fees or conditions may differ.

Check the route in stages

For each day, list the roads, fuel or supply stops, and the place you intend to stay. Verify important opening hours and make a plan for rest. Long distances call for a schedule that leaves room for delays rather than assuming continuous driving.

Ask Wicked about each intended unsealed road and check the relevant current road and park notices. If the group changes its route during the hire, reassess permissions, supplies and conditions before using the new road.

Compare the whole plan

Search your real pickup and return with Wicked, then review kilometres, fees, cover and handover arrangements before booking dependent connections.
